Police officers answering an emergency call walked in on a man butchering his own parents - and shot him dead. Cops in the US had knocked on the door of the home after getting an emergency call in which it sounded as though two people were fighting. When there was no answer at the front door they went down to the basement and an officer kicked the door down.

The footage showed the moment the officer walked in and found the suspect still stabbing a body - believed to be one of his parents - on the ground. After ordering him to put the knife down, the officer fired two shots and he was downed. Not certain if the knifeman was dead, the officer continued to order he put the knife down. His voice can be heard shaking and he finally left the scene. The knifeman was later identified as Erik Bertelsen, He and his parents, Kerry and Terri, died at the scene in West Valley City, Utah.

West Valley City Police said: “At about 5:12 pm on January 1, 2025, police dispatchers received a 911 call from a home at 3310 west Enterado avenue.
