Sainsbury's is enticing shoppers with free £250 rewards for Nectar Card holders. The supermarket giant, in collaboration with E.ON, has launched an eponymously named energy brand - allowing Brits to collect Nectar points through their tariff. New customers to Sainsbury's Energy will already receive up to 8,000 bonus Nectar points when they switch onto a fixed tariff depending on how long they lock in for. As we previously reported, if you sign up for Sainsbury's Track and Reward Tariff, dual fuel tariff customers can get 1,500 bonus points quarterly, while single fuel customers earn bonus points in four equal instalments of 750 points. Remember each Nectar point is worth half a penny, meaning the welcome bonus alone is worth £40. Besides Sainsbury's Nectar points can be spent at a slew of partner companies including Argos, Sky, and even on Eurostar train tickets.
"As a Sainsbury's Energy customer you can enjoy exclusive discounts on home energy upgrades through E.ON," the retailer said online. "Get up to £200 off solar panels and batteries. Plus, save £50 on an EV charger for your home." The firm states that solar panels can also save households around £713 per year on their electricity bills, meaning you'll continue to save money even after you've emptied your Nectar point balance. However, solar panels are notoriously expensive to buy - costing an average of £7,000.
Martin Lewis' Money Savings Expert advise getting at least three quotes in writing for solar panels - and urges Brits not to make the purchase on credit. "If you don't have the cash upfront, panels aren't for you," the publication warn. "The loan's interest could dwarf the savings." MSE goes on to recommend only choosing a registered installer that meets the standards of the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). You can find out more here. Charging a car at home can cost as little as £13, according to experts, which is a great savings compared to using public charging points. However, buying wall chargers for EVs will set you back around £500.

"You will be eligible to receive your Nectar points once you are on supply on Sainsbury's Energy and in accordance with the Offer," the supermarket added. "You need to tell us your Nectar card number when you apply." Sainsbury's states it can take up to 30 days from your supply start date to receive your bonus points. It warns that accidentally entering your Nectar Card number wrong could delay your points being added to the account.
