A “dangerous” masked robber who knocked a pensioner to the ground before stabbing him in the shoulder for his wallet has been jailed. Leon Lynck, 43, attacked 67-year-old David Munday from behind in broad daylight on Ingestre Road, Tufnell Park. He jabbed his victim with a four-inch blade as he lay sprawled on the ground. Thankfully, the injuries proved superficial, although Mr Munday suffered a fractured shoulder.

Lynck ran off with a wallet containing £300 in cash and two bank cards as passers-by called the Metropolitan Police who were quickly on the scene just after 1pm on September 24 last year. As well as helping the injured man, officers were careful to ensure that evidence was preserved. This proved crucial as DNA obtained from Mr Munday’s jacket identified Lynck as the suspect. A trawl of CCTV in the area provided additional evidence.
The mugger was arrested a month later by Islington-based CID officers. At Wood Green Crown Court last Friday Lynck, of Morning Lane, Hackney, received seven years and five months imprisonment having pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of an offensive weapon. Temporary Detective Constable Taylor Humpheys said: “The investigation which led to this conviction was a team effort by local officers, detectives and other specialists.
