Donald Trump has ordered the publishing of secret files on the assassination of John F. Kennedy from 1963 and Dr Martin Luther King Jnr. The 46-year-old serving president was gunned down as he and wife Jackie were being driven through Dallas, Texas, in an open-top limousine on November 22, 1963. Shots were fired from an open window on the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository and Lee Harvey Oswald was later arrested.
An aide announced the president was signing the executive action "ordering the declassification of files relating to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Dr. Reverend Martin Luther King Jr". Mr. Trump then said: "That's a big one, huh? A lot of people are waiting for this for a long — for years, for decades.".
The shocking assassination – and the subsequent killing of Oswald by nightclub owner Jack Ruby – has been endlessly investigated and produced an equally endless amount of conspiracy theories. Now, days after his second inauguration, Trump has signed an executive order for the Director of National Intelligence to arrange the full release of documents on the murder, MailOnline has reported.
The order reads: "More than 50 years after the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Federal Government has not released to the public all of its records related to those events.
