Many of us dream of living by the seaside, but as the boujiest seafront areas often come with a premium price tag, it’s not always the most affordable property goal. Now, the cheapest coastal towns in the UK have been named – and Rhyl in Denbighshire, Wales has been named the most affordable.
With an average house price of £181,118, it’s considerably cheaper than the typical UK house price – which, according to Zoopla’s figures for November 2024, is now £267,500. If you’re wanting to be beside the seaside, Rhyl has plenty to offer in that regard, with a whopping four sandy beaches. Rhyl Central is ideal for swimming, while East Beach is popularly used for water sports and West Beach is recommended for building sandcastles.
Notably, Rhyl Central previously won a Seaside Award through the Keep Wales Tidy initiative, praised for its popularity as a traditional and ‘bustling’ seaside spot. It was also lauded as an ideal spot for families, offering donkey rides as well as surfing and kite surfing.
And if you’ve got fluffy friends, Splash Point is Rhyl’s dog-friendly beach, boasting miles worth of beach stretching towards Prestatyn. It’s not just North Wales that’s home to some quality beaches, though. Elsewhere, MailOnline’s research named Lowestoft in Suffolk in second place with an average house price of £231,978, while Whitehaven in Cumbria was noted in third at £162,913.
