After years of asking, players will now be awarded a win when the opposition quits when drawing in EA FC 25, but I don't think EA Sports has done enough to make it work. EA Sports has announced that a new EA FC 25 update (Title Update 9) would bring a host of big feature changes, including two Ultimate Team Evolutions at once, a new search filter, and updated starter packs for new players. But the biggest change of all was that after years of community demand, EA has started to reward wins to players when the opponent quits while drawing, and it's long overdue.
For too long, a toxic chunk of the Ultimate Team player base has quit games when the score is level to stop the opponent from being awarded a win, and as someone who has had this happen to them way too often, it's one of the most irritating parts of playing EA FC 25 online. So, when I heard of this finally being fixed in the latest update, it got me excited to play online again, but EA has included a few restrictions that limit how well this can be implemented in EA FC 25.
On paper, players being awarded the win when a player quits while drawing sounds fantastic. But the execution of this update isn't perfect, and I can't help but feel EA has missed the mark. Firstly, wins will only be awarded when a player uses the quit option from the in-game pause menu, meaning if a player quits the game by turning off their PC or console or just restarting the game from the dashboard, then the win won't be awarded. We know the Ultimate Team community can be quite toxic at times – I mean, this feature is only being added in an attempt to combat that toxic part of the player base.
But with the wins only being awarded by quitting in the pause menu, players will continue to quit games when drawing another way, meaning wins won't be rewarded. This is something that I've already witnessed in-game, so it hasn't taken long for players to catch on. Also, at least one of these conditions must be met for a win to be rewarded:. So, if you are drawing before half-time and someone quits, you won't be given the win. EA has also limited the number of times a player can receive a win to five times every 24 hours, so you’ll be informed in-game with a pop-up message when that limit has been reached.
For this update to be a success, there have to be fewer requirements and conditions for the win to be rewarded because the toxic part of the community will just work around these conditions to ensure players still don't receive a win if they quit games. In an ideal world, there would be no requirements at all, but I don't think that will ever be possible. If EA were to reward players with a win every time a player quit a game when drawing, then without a doubt, PC hackers would find a way to purposely disconnect the opposition from the game and give themselves the win. Without a win limit in place or any of these requirements, PC hackers could easily get a 15-0 record in Champions Finals by cheating, and I think this is something EA wants to avoid.
So, this is where the problem lies. Either EA finds a way to combat PC hackers and removes all requirements for the win to be rewarded, or the requirements stay the same, allowing players to find workarounds and avoid giving their opponents the win. Until EA can guarantee these PC hacks don't work in EA FC 25, I can't see these requirements changing any time soon. Baby steps, EA. Baby steps. The latest console and PC gaming news and reviews.
