A UK-bound flight was forced to divert to another airport more than 200 miles away due to a mid-air emergency. The easyJet flight made an unscheduled landing at Manchester Airport after a medical episode on board in which a passenger needed "urgent medical attention". The flight from Amsterdam to Glasgow on Tuesday night took off from Schiphol Airport, but landed instead in Manchester at 8.35pm. Medics were on-hand to meet the passenger needing help, before the aircraft took off again around 15 minutes later, landing in the Scottish city at 9.44pm, Daily Record reports.
A spokesperson for EasyJet said: “Flight EZY3174 from Amsterdam to Glasgow yesterday evening was required to divert to Manchester, due to a customer onboard requiring urgent medical attention. The customer was met by medical services and the flight continued to Glasgow. The safety and well-being of our customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.”. It comes two days after another of the airline's flight from Egypt to Manchester had to make an emergency landing this week after the pilot reportedly collapsed. The plane had been on route from Hurghada when the crisis struck, and the remaining pilot diverted to Athens.
Emergency vehicles waited for the plane on the runway in Athens in order to treat the other pilot. A passenger, who did not want to be named, told Mirror affiliate The Manchester Evening News they were two hours into the flight when they realised something was wrong. Cabin crew had been serving drinks when the passenger recalled seeing them rush to the front of the plane where a man had collapsed. The passenger added: "At first we thought this may of been a passenger as nothing much was being said other than the screams asking if anyone is medically trained, where a few passengers got up and assisted the cabin crew.".
