Disney is renewing Malcolm in the Middle for a limited four-episode miniseries with many of the original cast members. In the return of the early 2000s family comedy, Malcolm – played by Frankie Muniz – goes back home to celebrate his parents’ 40th wedding anniversary with his daughter in tow. His parents, played by Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, are also returning.

The new series is being overseen by the original creator, Linwood Boomer, and will air on Disney+. The original show had 151 episodes and aired over seven seasons from 2000 to 2006. It received 33 Emmy nominations and won seven. The actor who plays Malcolm has had a rather unusual career path since his younger days on screen – here is what we know.

While playing Malcolm from 2000 to 2006, Muniz also had roles in movies such as Agent Cody Banks, Big Fat Liar and The Fairly Odd Parents. But in later years, he decided acting was not for him and turned his attention to a very different path. Muniz appeared in a few other films, but decided to retire from the celebrity scene. In 2006 he began a racing career and in 2023 announced he was to begin a full-time career as a professional racing driver, having driven both cars and trucks.

Speaking at the time, he said: “It’s with the utmost excitement, optimism and gratitude that I’m joining Rette Jones Racing for the full ARCA Menards Series schedule this year. I don't want to say it's a long time coming, but this has been a dream of mine for forever.
