Nadiya Hussain has revealed she's been the target of 'micro-aggressions' and 'unconscious bias' after unveiling her new Ramadan-inspired cookbook. The British-Bangladeshi Great British Bake Off winner, 40, who is a practising Muslim, released her latest work Rooza last week.

Rooza is described as 'a journey through Islamic cuisine inspired by Ramadhan and Eid', with 30 meals from 30 countries, including Mauritius, the Middle East, Nepal, Yemen and Singapore. Fans of the chef, who is often deemed the Bake Off's most successful contestant, were overwhelmingly positive, with people calling it 'life changing' and a 'wonderful idea'.

However, Nadiya took to her Instagram account over the weekend to reveal she's lost more than 1,000 followers since the launch - something she admitted that had brought her 'disappointment and angst'. In a moving video that has racked up more than 500,000 views, Nadiya said: 'Deep down inside of me I knew that this book would cause some controversy because there's faith attached to my food.

'As a British Bangladeshi Muslim woman, I am deeply proud of everything that I do because I have to work 10 times harder for 10 times less and still I have to suffer the disappointment and angst that comes with anything like this. 'Writing a book like this did not come with ease. It was not easy, it was not handed to me on a plate. I had to convince people that it was a valuable book, that it was needed.
