Harry Kane has been tipped to join Arsenal after it emerged that he has a cut-price release clause in his contract at Bayern Munich. Kane joined Bayern in the summer of 2023 in a £100million deal from Tottenham. The England captain has since taken the Bundesliga by storm and scored 70 goals in 72 appearances across all competitions. Those goals have not translated into trophies though, the prime reason behind Kane moving to the Allianz. They are well set at the top of the Bundesliga this season though, with Kane their top scorer.
Though he signed a four year deal when he joined the German giants, it appears they now face a fight to keep him. It has emerged that Kane had a clause in his deal which could facilitate a return to the Premier League. The clause was worth £67million in the winter transfer window just gone, with the price expected to drop to £54m next January. And Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes the Gunners should take advantage.
“Arsenal will buy him,” he said on Sky Sports. When asked whether he was serious, he added: “Why not? £64m, why not? Sol Campbell did [make the move]. People will go ‘Oh he’s this age and that age’ but Arsenal need now. "If Arsenal haven’t won the League, you’ve got to take a chance. You’ve got to take a chance, buy someone that’s proven. I wouldn’t be surprised, and when you’re Harry Kane and you’ve been told you can go for £64m, there’s only a couple of teams who could buy him.
HAVE YOUR SAY! Should Arsenal make a move for Harry Kane? Comment below. “Maybe Tottenham will buy him back but he’ll have to win something at Bayern Munich to go back to Tottenham. If you’ve not won anything at Bayern Munich, you’re not going back to Tottenham to win nothing.”. Arsenal would face a serious challenge to convince Kane to join for several reasons. The first is his long association with their bitter rivals Tottenham and the second is the fact Kane is happy in Germany.
The 31-year-old is not believed to be planning on moving back to England in the near future. Last year, the England skipper made it clear he wanted to see out his contract with Bayern. "I'm really enjoying my experience in Germany. It was a step that I needed in my career for a fresh stimulus, a fresh challenge and new surroundings and I'm really happy that I made the move," he said. "My future is at Bayern Munich. I have a four-year contract. I'm enjoying it and hopefully, I will be able to make something special happen this season. If not, I'll be ready to go again in the summer and turn things around.".
