A tourist was dragged under the wheels of an oncoming train as she posed for a selfie at a railway station in a horrifying accident. Shocking trackside CCTV footage from Shifen, Taiwan, shows the woman, named only as Michelle, standing at the edge of a platform as a train speeds in on January 20. At the last moment she spread her arms wide for the photo and was hit by the locomotive which couldn't stop in time. She spun, fell backwards and was pulled under the wheels of the carriage as horrified travellers look on.

As the tourist disappeared beneath the train, a friend who had been shooting the selfie emerges clearly distressed as the clip ends. But astonishingly, 36-year-old Filipino national Michelle survived and was rushed to Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital with a huge gash to her head.

She suffered multiple fractures and bruising to her head, chest, and pelvis. However adding more pain for Michelle, Taiwan's Railway Bureau has announced plans to investigate the collision to see if she was to blame. Under Taiwan’s Railway Act she could be fined up to TWD 50,000 (£1,235) for endangering passengers and disrupting train services.

Meanwhile last month another tourist was sent flying as she posed for a selfie in Taiwan and also fortunately survived. Liu Nu, 55, was standing too close to the railway track when she was knocked to the ground in the incident. Liu could be seen first with her back to the train as she appears to try and get a photo of herself alongside it. And even when the train blows its horn she took no notice as she is fully concentrated on taking her snap. And then the train strikes her on the right shoulder knocking her to the ground and at first she stays still before starting to move her legs slightly and obviously in pain.
