Holiday planning app TripCase has announced plans to shut down — and users are devastated. The app allows you to manage itineraries, hotel bookings, and rental cars in one place, and sends an alert if flights have been delayed or cancelled. But from April 1 2025, its services will no longer be available. Users received an email on February 11 alerting them of the closure, and quickly took to social media to share their disappointment.

On X, user @TonyB_Melb wrote: ‘Really sad news for those of us, like me, who regularly travel and use TripCase to track their flights, hotels etc. It’s closing down. Sad to see you go @TripCase, I’ll miss you. Thanks for years of great service.’. @mkemp623 replied: ‘So sad… even just last night TripCase alerted me of my canceled flight today before the airline did… smh’. On Reddit, people directed their anger towards Sabre, the travel technology company that owns TripCase.

One user, who calls themselves zenichi, wrote: ‘If there was any semblance of customer-centricity, they would have worked with another company to help migrate users. Instead, they give two months notice. Really disappointing.’. Metro has contacted TripCase and Sabre for comment. According-War-3707 added: ‘What a surprisingly useless email from them. I refer to my trip history often and can’t export the details. I hope another company will be able to import this data. This is so upsetting and frustrating.’.

The email sent to TripCase users revealed plans for ‘sunsetting’, a business term that refers to the intentional phasing out or termination of a brand. It read: ‘Please be aware the TripCase app will be sunsetting. Starting on April 1, 2025 you will no longer be able to access and use the app. Sabre will delete all TripCase-related trip and traveler data as part of the decommissioning process. You are free to choose an alternate itinerary management app.’.

One Reddit user, Rocketship1979, said they’d ‘pay $100 a year for the TripCase app to continue’. Others reminisced on the things they enjoy about the service. Old_Ice_90210 said: ‘Dang! I love this app. No annoying ads or locked features. Love the ease of forwarding an email and loved the alerts about flight changes in real-time.’. Flight changes and updates were a standout feature for many people.

Jumpstart145798 wrote: ‘More often than not, the information regarding flight changes would be updated on TripCase well before the information was updated on the airline website.’. Economy_Fish_6542 echoed: ‘I would get the notification from TripCase before the airline or even the gate agents.’. Plenty said they have been using the app for over a decade, and were keen to hear recommendations for alternatives.

TripIt was a popular choice among Reddit users, and has an impressive 4.8-star rating on the Apple App Store. Reviewers have called it their ‘favourite app’, with one writing ‘I don’t know what we would do without TripIt.’. Another added: ‘I adore TripIt — I’ve been using it in some form or another since way back in 2008’. However, devoted TripCase users are reluctant to make the swap.

User dave_eee wrote: ‘I tried TripIt in the past out of curiosity, I decided to stay with TripCase.’. Witty_Discount_1861 said: ‘I’ve had TripIt for a few years also. Not as good as TripCase but I will be migrating there for now’. Do you have a story to share?. Get in touch by emailing MetroLifestyleTeam@Metro.co.uk.
