An audition tape from the star popped up on Reddit, sparking talk about Jim Carrey being spot-on for the part. Despite the initial box office flop, his portrayal of cult comedian Andy Kaufman in Man on the Moon has won over the critics and is now hailed as one of Carrey's finest performances.
One Redditor wrote: "He was the perfect person to play Andy Kaufman in my opinion. I don't think they could've casted a part any better.". Netflix's 2017 documentary on the making of Man on the Moon revealed Carrey's intense approach to the character, which won him a Golden Globe. Another fan raved about his performance, saying: "I recently saw Man On The Moon and after getting into it for a bit you stop thinking it's Jim Carrey and truly feel like it's Andy himself portraying the role.".
