Legendary actor Jim Carrey apparently wants just one role for the rest of his career, and people are finding it hilarious. The Hollywood icon, 62, recently cancelled retirement plans to return for a role which had previously coaxed him back onto the big screen once before. His time in the spotlight came to a temporary close back in 2014 when he starred in a sequel to Dumb and Dumber. His appearance in Dumb and Dumber To would be his last lead role in a comedy for six years. In that time, he made just two films.
But Carrey, who said he was set to retire before being offered his most recent role, says there is one franchise he would return to – and it's not the most obvious pick. His role as Dr Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog series delighted fans of all ages, and it appears to have had the same effect on Carrey. Fans now wonder whether the actor will ever play any other role as he previously shared his decision to retire had been cut short after the announcement of a third movie in the series.
In 2022, Carrey shared he "had enough" and would hang up his hat for good. His decision came shortly after the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. But he was back on our screens just two years later in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Speaking to AP Entertainment, Carrey said: "I came back to this universe because I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch. And you know, I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.".
Fans are delighted not just by his return to the big screen but his dedication to just one role. One wrote: "Big fan of Jim Carrey retiring and then deciding Robotnik is infinitely more important." Another fan added: "Honestly the fact that Jim Carrey only wants to play Doctor Robotnik nowadays is really funny.".
