John Torode was back on This Morning via video link on Monday (February 17) to clear the air over the stir from his previous segment that took social media by storm. Last week’s cookery bit became an internet sensation, and on Monday, he joined stand-in hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary - who were filling in for regular presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard - to talk about his steak cooking technique that garnered thousands of views.

The MasterChef judge robustly defended his approach, affirming: "I started [cooking] when I was 17 in a professional kitchen, that's like 43 years ago. I opened up in 2000 the top floor of Smiths and we had some of the most incredible steaks in London. I know what I'm talking about.". Addressing the viral clip and the online chatter, John told Alison and Dermot, "I think we all have lots of different ways of doing things.".

He also expressed delight at the impact of the video, saying: "I think the thing I love is that so many people have saved it, it's been saved by nearly 50,000 people. And if 50,000 cook steak on Valentine's Day and have actually made their day great, isn't that fantastic.". In response to the viewers who weighed in with their opinions, John clarified that the audience had only caught a glimpse of the full nine-minute demonstration and assured them that he "did use butter at the end" dispelling any remaining uncertainty, reports Wales Online.

Viewers of This Morning who caught the episode last week took to TikTok to share John's steak preparation clip, which has since sparked a lively debate with thousands of comments. Many were taken aback by the quantity of olive oil he used. One viewer said: "Way too much oil. And Olive oil should not be used at such high temperature." A second chimed in: "I use butter. Not oil. It tastes 100 times better.".

While a third shared their own method: "Nope i use butter with a twig of rosemary and i season my steak, salt pepper and butter from the pan." Additional comments flowed in like: "This is wrong. I can't believe he saying it on tv.". Another TikTok user offered advice on seasoning: "Wrong. Season the steak with salt a good hour when you first take it out the fridge. Then add pepper when it is resting. here John burns the pepper and will be acrid.".
