Labyrinth fans are raging after it was officially announced that the David Bowie cult classic is getting a sequel nearly four decades after its release. It was confirmed on Thursday that Nosferatu director Robert Eggers has closed a deal to write and direct a new movie, said to be a follow up to the original 1986 film.

Although plot details for Eggers' project remain under wraps for now, it's been revealed that he is writing the script with Sjón, his collaborator on 2022 Viking actioner The Northman. But the announcement is not sitting well with protective fans, who have slammed the news and have even begged the director to 'leave it alone'.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one said: 'Not a single thing about Labyrinth implies needing a sequel nor will it be any good because Bowie is dead and Bowie IS Jareth.'. Echoing a similar sentiment, another raged: 'As much as I like eggers, LABYRINTH DOES NOT NEED A SEQUEL LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!!!! The original is so charming and perfect a sequel just wouldn't work these days (or ever).'.

'NOOOOO PLEASE LEAVE IT ALONE LET IT BE PLEASE PLEASE GOD NO PLEASE NOOOOOO,' a fourth requested. 'We don't want this,' wrote a fifth. Others were less harsh and reasoned that if a Labyrinth sequel has to be made, Eggers is the right person for the job.
