Model and presenter Lisa Snowdon has had a number of high-profile romances since she became a big name in the modelling industry in the nineties. Now 53, she's blissfully happy and engaged to her fiancé George Smart, but reveals in our exclusive chat that it's taken a lot of 'dodgy' relationships to get her to such a happy and content place. Lisa and George first met each other over 20 years ago and enjoyed a brief fling. Lisa was working as a presenter for MTV, and George was head of events. But Lisa was about to move to the US to film a new show, LA Pool Party with Tess Daly and Jayne Middlemiss, and they weren't ready for anything serious.
But fast forward to today, and they've been engaged since 2017 and enjoy a relationship built on respect, trust and communication, Lisa says. "A healthy relationship is being respectful of each other, and each other’s needs, dreams and desires. I’ve had so many dodgy relationships in the past and they taught me so much about the things that make a good relationship. "Proper communication is something I could never do. For years, I always found I had a lump in my throat and I felt like my throat chakra was completely squashed. I was like, ‘I can’t say that,’ or ‘I shouldn’t say this,’ because I felt like I was going to be judged.".
The couple, who live together in London, describe themselves as 'best friends', and after missing out on each other the first time, they're now determined to make the most of things this time around. "Time is precious and you just don’t know what’s round the corner," Lisa says. "You hear so many scary things with health and families and friends, so we’re very appreciative and very grateful for what we have, and we just really try to live in the moment. We try to do that with our families as well, we tell them we love them. Life is precious, we just need to act in the now.”.
As well as enjoying cosy nights in front of the TV (they love to binge a boxset, they tell us), they're also big into their health and wellness, and could even see themselves working together in the field professionally. “Somewhere tropical and beautiful because we’re really into that,” says Lisa. “I love empowering women and not teaching per se, but showing people the things I’ve learnt that have worked for me. “Whether it’s movement, nutrition, or holistic therapies, that’s kind of where we’re looking.”.
