Darts superstar Luke Humphries has given fans a peek behind the curtain after revealing how much he's been paid during his rise to the top. The 2024 world champion pocketed a cool £500,000 for his victory at Alexandra Palace last year and has amassed nearly £3million in winnings throughout his career. His first significant payday came in 2019 when he was crowned the world youth champion and secured a quarter-final spot at the World Darts Championship, earning him a tidy £50,000.

This achievement not only boosted his bank balance but also confidence in his ability to succeed as a professional darts player. However, not all of that money is put into the athletes' pockets. Despite this, Humphries couldn't hide his delight when discussing how much he and his fellow players take home, especially when reminiscing about those early days of big wins. And he's showing no signs of stopping anytime soon.

"Bloody lovely," he said on the Happy Hour Podcast (via the Daily Express), recalling his reaction to that first huge deposit. "Really nice! You look at it and think, 'Jesus! ' You've got £50,000 that's just been put in. "Obviously you have to pay management and tax...but you sort of get 65% of it in the end, maybe 70% if you're lucky. And it was amazing. You think, 'This is amazing, £50,000, I want to keep doing this! ".

That means Humphries will have shelled out between £870,000 and £900,000 in tax and payments to management over the course of his career. 'Cool Hand' has seen his earnings skyrocket in more recent years, with his total prize money now standing at £2,910,225. The Newbury man not only bagged the world title but also triumphed at the World Matchplay and Players Championship in 2024, not to mention playing a pivotal role in leading England to victory in the World Cup of Darts.
