Manchester City are unlikely to pursue a move for Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso - despite the champions enquiring over a potential deal. City have had a £54.5million offer for Cambiaso rejected as they look to replace Kyle Walker, with the Italian club demanding £75.5million.

On Tuesday, Juve coach Thiago Motta revealed that the 24-year-old told the club he was still feeling the ankle injury that forced him to miss his team’s first Serie A defeat of the season at Napoli at the weekend. Motta said: "Cambiaso won’t be there. You know he’s had this situation with his ankle, but he was trying to help the team. He has said that he prefers to take his time to get back to 100 percent.".

Juventus are already looking for a replacement, with Feyenoord’s David Hancko their No 1 target. But despite an initial enquiry from City, a deal before Monday night's deadline appears unlikely. Cambiaso came through the ranks of Genoa before joining Juventus in an £8.5million deal in the summer of 2022. He caught Pep Guardiola’s eye when he helped the Turin club beat the Blues 2-0 in the Champions League in December.

City have already spent big during the transfer following the arrivals of Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Juma Bah. And could strike more deals as Guardiola looks to arrest the slump suffered by the four-time Premier League champions.
