Some Manchester United players are said to have discussed whether or not Ruben Amorim would be best served by tweaking his tactical approach. The Red Devils appointed Amorim, 40, back in November after parting company with Erik ten Hag. But United have struggled for consistency and currently lie 13th in the Premier League table as Amorim continues to predominantly work with the squad he inherited. While there is no suggestion that there is any significant dressing room discontent, a new report from The Mail claims that some players have spoken about 'whether a change of plan' that would be better suited to their style would benefit the team moving forward.
Amorim enjoyed tremendous success at Sporting Lisbon with his preferred 3-4-3 formation and has continued to deploy that shape at Old Trafford. But it's said there are 'growing concerns' among some players that their could be more pain ahead unless he 'at least considers' tweaking his system. The report comes just one week after Gary Neville questioned whether Amorim was getting his ideas across to United's beleaguered squad in the wake of recent displays.
"I thought it would get better when Ruben Amorim came in, the enthusiasm of him and the new system, the players would buy into and we'd see a bounce, but we've seen the absolute opposite and it's got a lot worse," the former United defender said on The Gary Neville Podcast after the recent 2-0 loss against Crystal Palace. "They (United) are obviously going to stick with Amorim. But the more you lose, the more difficult it is for the manager to convince the players of his idea.

"It will depress the thoughts of the players to a point whereby they'll start to lose faith in the idea and it'll damage you.". Amorim has already indicated that he will not be changing his plans moving forward. He has won 9 of his 20 matches at the helm since stepping into the fold. Overall, the picture is bleaker: United have won just eight of their 24 games in the Premier League this season and qualifying for Europe next season already seems to be all but out of the question.
They are still in the FA Cup - where they will face Fulham in the fifth round - and the Europa League, but scrutiny is likely to grow over the coming weeks if United are unable to lift themselves away from the bottom half of the Premier League table.
