Antony has taken Ajax to court after claiming they unlawfully fined him before his move to Manchester United. The Brazilian was involved in a transfer saga in the summer of 2022, that eventually saw him land a move to the Red Devils. Antony played his part in pushing through the move, which cost more than £80million, as he missed several training sessions.

Ajax became frustrated with the winger’s attitude and fined him three times for being absent without permission. He also failed to feature in the team's third game of the season at Sparta Rotterdam, even though he had no injury issues. When Antony eventually secured his move to Manchester he noticed that the Dutch club had taken the fine money out of his pay packet. A source claimed the fines totalled “a few hundred thousand euros” with Dutch outlet AD reporting that the Brazilian is citing "unlawful" behaviour as he seeks to get the money back.

A spokesperson from the arbitration committee of the Dutch national football association confirmed that the case started on Monday in Zeist, near Utrecht. Antony turned to the arbitration committee six months ago with cases of this nature usually rule within a month of the hearing.

Antony went on to score on his United debut as they saw off Arsenal at Old Trafford, but that was a rare high point for the Brazilian who is seen as one of the biggest Premier League flops of the modern era with his future at the club now in doubt. The 24-year-old has scored five Premier League goals in three seasons and 12 goals in 94 appearances in all competitions. Greek side Olympiacos and Real Betis of La Liga want to sign Antony on loan during the January transfer window, which could allow him to find his best form elsewhere.
