This is the shocking moment a teenage weightlifter passes out and whacks his head on a bench - before remarkably returning to finish his workout. Solomon Carter, 18, was attempting a 305lb deadlift on January 11 when he suddenly collapsed after experiencing a weightlifter's blackout. He had held his breath while lifting, which temporarily reduced blood flow to the brain and caused him to briefly lose consciousness.
As he fell, Solomon smashed his head against a workbench and was left unconscious on the floor of the empty gym. He woke up just a few seconds later and was left with a minor concussion. Solomon, a student in Springfield, South Carolina, said: "It was very unexpected and pretty scary experience. Nothing like that has ever happened to me since I started training about six months ago. Especially the fact that I was alone in the gym made it scarier because no one was there to help me.
"When I woke back up, it felt like I had been out for more like five minutes than five seconds. I can see in the video that I'm holding my breath for the entire lift, so I think that's what did it.". Solomon remarkably went on to continue his workout but focused on lighter exercises. He said: "I did end up finishing the workout, but decided not to do anymore heavy lifting. I did some pull ups and curls instead then went home for some rest.
