The second season of Squid Game hit our screens on December 26 and already has fans hailing it as a ‘masterpiece’, saying it’s even better than its landmark first season. Squid Game season one became the most-watched Netflix series ever after its release, and it seems season two could claim the top spot after it was announced as the number one show in every country where the streaming platform is available.

It’s a feat that not even huge shows such as Stranger Things and Wednesday have achieved, so we could see the Korean thriller series break more records yet. The first season of Squid Game follows 456 players, all of whom are in deep financial hardship, who take part in a series of deadly children’s games for the chance to win a ₩45.6 billion prize.

Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk wrote the story of Squid Game in 2009 but it took 10 years before Netflix funded the production in a bid to expand their foreign programming. It proved to be a great investment in more ways than one after the show quickly received critical acclaim and international attention upon release.
