Netflix fans in the UK are fuming as it's been revealed that the streaming service is raising its prices again. Those on Netflix's Standard tier will now have to pay an extra £2 per month, with the price of the service's most popular plan jumping to £12.99. Meanwhile, its Premium plan – which is its most expensive – has been increased to £18.99, which is an addition of £1 per month. Those on the ad plan will also be affected, as this is getting its first price hike and going up by £1 to £5.99.
Many Netflix customers took to X to vent about the changes, as some branded it "daylight robbery". One person exclaimed: "Netflix raising their prices again???? Who do I tussle with!". While another added: "How can Netflix put their prices up AGAIN? They haven’t even got anything worth watching on there, only have it so I can binge watch The Office.". A third chimed in: "The daylight robbery that Netflix is committing is very irritating. Start the email talking bout how loyal of a customer we’ve been to then tell us prices are hiking up AGAIN.".
Some even said they were cancelling their subscriptions over the move, as one person fumed: "Netflix increases their prices every six months. I’m cancelling lol. I just wanted to watch one show anyway." While someone else said: "Netflix putting their price up again for no reason? Yeah might be time to quit.". Sky is giving away a free Netflix subscription with its new TV bundles, including the £15 Essential TV plan.
Sky Stream lets members watch live and on-demand TV content without a satellite dish or aerial and includes hit shows like The Day of the Jackal and the upcoming second season of Squid Game. Netflix has changed its website to reflect the new prices, which will affect both new and existing customers. It comes after company previously got rid of its no-frills Basic plan in a bid to push more users to use its ad tier.
The streaming service will notify members soon via email about news of the new prices, which will go into effect based on their billing cycle. “As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can reinvest to further improve Netflix," a spokesperson for the company said. Those Netflix subscribers who are paying for extra members will also be affected. After the password-sharing ban came into place, an additional account outside your household now costs £5.99, up from £4.99. And, on the ad-supported plan, adding an extra member will now cost £4.99, up from £3.99.
