Chelsea are facing stiff competition from both home and abroad for Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen this summer. The Blues have identified the Spain U21 international as a potential transfer target as they draw up plans to upgrade Enzo Maresca's defensive options at the end of the season. But Newcastle are among a long list of clubs that look ready to throw their hat into the ring for the Cherries ace following his stunning debut Premier League season at the Vitality Stadium. The Magpies have had Huijsen on their radar since last year when he impressed on loan at Roma from Juventus. The Netherlands-born teenager was one of several cheaper alternatives Newcastle considered alongside their unsuccessful pursuit of Marc Guehi.

Eddie Howe's side had four big-money bids knocked back for the England international last summer and he remains a name of huge interest. Chelsea and Tottenham, who saw their own bid rejected in recent weeks, remain keen on the Crystal Palace captain. The Blues also have matching rights for Guehi, who will enter the final year of his contract in June. Meanwhile, German giants Bayern Munich are also eyeing Huijsen meaning Bournemouth have a major fight on their hands to keep hold of the starlet beyond the end of the season. It's understood he has a release clause written into his current Cherries contract that can be triggered this summer. His former club Juventus also have a sell-on clause. Bournemouth look set to overturn mega profit if the player is sold having nabbed Huijsen for an initial £12.6million from Juve last July.

While the Old Lady were scratching around for defensive reinforcements in the winter transfer window, many within the game could not believe they allowed Huijsen to leave for so cheap, particularly given they've since paid £20m to sign Lloyd Kelly, who replaced Huijsen at Bournemouth, from Newcastle on an initial loan that will become permanent. Newcastle are also admirers of Bournemouth's Illia Zabarnyi, who has attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The Magpies have been hamstrung by PSR limitations in recent transfer windows. They had lined up a deal to sign Manchester City's Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens last month but they were unable to get the transfer over the line because of those financial restrictions. Chelsea are also big admirers of Nottingham Forest starlet Murillo, who has just signed a new bumper contract at the City Ground. Forest are not entertaining the idea of a sale and it was recently reported that they snubbed an approach from the Blues last month before tying up the Brazilian's extension.
