The future of Noel Fielding's comedy series Dick Turpin has been up in the air since its cancellation mid-series - however, there's a chance that it could live on. Apple TV+ pulled the plug on the sitcom, which focused on the 18th century highwayman, last week after Noel was taken ill, reportedly much to the disappointment of fellow crew members. However, it's thought there is still a chance the series will be completed.
Producers are thought to be trying to see what footage they have from what would have been a full, second series. According to reports, the hope is to potentially create an hour-long special rather than run it as a series. A TV insider told The Sun: “It’s now considered to be something of a salvage operation, although it's not clear whether they have enough to do anything with. But the creators sank millions into making the show and it was around 70 to 80 per cent filmed by the time the axe fell. So it would now be galling to see what they have go entirely to waste.".
They added that it was unclear whether guest stars such as Dawn French, Jason Isaacs and Miranda Richardson had filmed their scenes. Comedian and TV presenter Noel called it a day on the show, with a source telling The Times: "Noel has said that he can't film anymore and so there was no choice but to stop.".
They reported that while there was deep concern for Noel's health and while the decision to leave was not made lightly, it hasn't been met with universal approval. The Sun has reported that over 100 cast and crew members were mulling legal action against the show's producers after the sudden cancellation mid-production.
