PETER Kay has today been slammed by a fan who watched him humiliate the "garlic bread" heckler. The Phoenix Nights star, 51, has found himself in hot water after he made a bad taste joke and threw two audience members out of his Better Late Than Never... Again! show in Manchester. Peter, 51, has been criticised for "not being very nice" to the hecklers. It all started when a heckler - who has since been named as Warehouse work Philip Peters - kept shouting out the comedian's signature catchphrase "garlic bread".

After the male attendee repeated the phrase numerous times, interrupting his joke following the show interval, the Bolton-born star called on the AO Arena staff to intervene. But it didn't stop there, as one female audience member took advantage of the pause in proceedings to shout "we love you Peter Kay.". The comedian then also asked for Myar Curran, 25, to be escorted out as well. Sadly, he couldn't resist a distasteful dig as she made her way through the aisles, with audience members claiming he said: "Have a drink have we?.

"Go on, off you go Lisa Riley.". Peter was referring to the Emmerdale actress, who plays Mandy Dingle, and has spoken openly about her battle with booze - she also hasn't had a drink in nine years. Now another audience member who was at the show, has spoken out about the incident and said she saw the "garlic bread" heckler being "humiliated" as he was ejected from his seat. Speaking on the Jeremy Vine, Show a caller called Helen said: "The way they dragged him out, the way Peter Kay humiliated him, it was really, really not very nice and made me feel uncomfortable.

"And I really thought it was a joke, and we were all very quiet.". Speaking about the whole incident, she said: "We paid £150 a ticket, he did not interrupt the show at all, we were right next to security, security were unreal, they were completely out of hand, it was really peculiar, we thought something really bad was happening, then it was just a heckler. "Nobody was cheering. Nobody was happy it was happening.".

Yesterday, Peter spoke out on the matter in a statement to ITV show Good Morning Britain: "I didn't realise it was an insult. "She did look remarkably like Lisa Riley, I didn't realise that was an insult.". GMB host Ed Balls defended Peter, and told viewers: "He felt he had no option but to remove the hecklers as they were spoiling the show". Ed continued to read his statement which said: "There comes a point when dealing with repeated hecklers simply isn't enough.

"It's not something you ever want to do but it becomes a point when it's no longer fair to everyone around.". Lisa also broke her silence on the debacle. Addressing the fallout on Instagram, she wrote: "Please draw a line under this now, I am not offended, never was offended. "I love Peter Kay to pieces. Laughter is my favourite medicine.". On Sunday, she shared a picture of the quote "Keep calm and laugh" on her grid and added: "It's a laugh, it's funny!".
