Location, Location, Location star Phil Spencer shared a rare photo with his son, and fans were shocked by their copy-and-paste features. The Channel 4 host shared new pics on Instagram on Wednesday, giving fans a little look behind the scenes of his new show New Zealand’s Best Homes, which first came out last summer. Phil, 55, seemed to be back with the kiwis filming new episodes, and took his teen son along for the ride.
In the first photo, Phil posed alongside Jake, 18, while filming the show. The TV star wore his classic suit and jeans combo, opting for a navy blazer and a pink shirt, and clutched a coffee cup while smiling widely. Beside him, Jake looked more casual in a grey jumper over a shirt, chino shorts, and well-worn white trainers. Jake held a clapperboard as they paused filming for the shot, while a cameraman stood next to the father-son duo.
Kirstie Allsopp’s TV partner shared plenty of photos of gorgeous properties and scenery, and also included a couple more snaps of his son. In one photo, Phil and Jake sat in a boat on glistening water, matching in white shirts and life jackets. The doting dad also included a moment of Jake alone, proudly holding a fish aloft to the camera.
“Fantastic to be joined by my son in Queenstown for a few more houses & a few days off…” Phil captioned the post. In the comment section, fans couldn’t believe how similar he and his son looked. “He’s your doppelganger!” one fan wrote, while a second added: “Like father like son, smart and charming. May God bless you both enjoy his company.” A third agreed: “Handsome young man - takes after his dad. Have a lovely time.”.
“Amazing and your son is the image of you… as he would be I suppose,” a fourth mused, with a fifth writing: “Your son is your double.” Another fan joked: “He’s a chip off the old block hey?”. Phil shares Zake with his wife Fiona Spencer, who’s originally from Australia. The couple met in 1995, and he persuaded the Aussie to move over to the UK before they got married in 2001. The couple now lives in Hampshire, and also share a second son, 15-year-old Ben.
Sadly for Phil, his dad Richard, 89, and mum Anne, 82, died in August 2023 during a car journey near their home as they headed to their local pub for lunch. Speaking of the tragic accident soon after, Phil revealed that his family was simply trying to be grateful that they died together.
“As a family we are all trying to hold onto the fact Mum and Dad went together and that neither will ever have to mourn the loss of the other one. Which is a blessing in itself,” he said, later adding: “Mum said to me only a week ago that she had resigned to thinking ‘now it looks like we will probably go together’. And so they did. That was what God had planned for them - and it was a good plan.”.
