Queen Letizia of Spain once again proved her fashion credentials as she stepped out in Madrid with King Felipe VI on Wednesday. The 52-year-old royal dazzled in an all-red suit for her and her husband's trip to the Bank of Spain to receive their official portraits by American photographer, Annie Leibovitz, in the Spanish capital.

Looking stunning in scarlet, Letizia was all smiles when presented with the artwork - and shared a sweet grin with the Spanish King while admiring the work. Portrait artist Leibovitz, 75, who famously photographed the late Queen Elizabeth II in the White Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace in 2007, shot the couple at the Royal Palace of Madrid, their official residence, in November last year.

Leibovitz, who has more Rolling Stone covers than any other photographer, is the brains behind hundreds of famous photos including Demi Moore's 1991 nude Vanity Fair cover and a Polaroid of John Lennon nude with Yoko Ono, just five hours before his death.

But her latest work channels Old Hollywood glamour, with Letizia opting to wear a spectacular black, strapless ballgown designed by Spanish couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga. On Wednesday, the Spanish Queen appeared striking in the ruby suit - featuring a long sleeved blazer and wide-leg trousers - which was perhaps a tribute to the extravagant shawl she was wearing for the shoot in the same shade.

Beneath the glamorous suit, the mother-of-two wore a barely-there nude bandeau and a pair of red kitten heels. Queen Letizia of Spain looked radiant in red today as she and King Felipe VI arrived at the Bank of Spain in Madrid (pictured with Annie Leibovitz, centre).

The royal wore her thick chocolate tresses in a Hollywood waves down by her side, mirroring the same elegant look she donned for her portrait. She completed her look with glamorous yet classy makeup - including a dark smoky eye, flawless base and pink lip.

Meanwhile, King Felipe looked equally smart in a dashing double-breasted grey suit with a crimson tie. He sported a stylish set of leather double monk strap shoes in a modern cherry shade. They were snapped looking admiringly at their sophisticated portraits, with Letizia smiling up at her husband. The pair posed for the regal snap back in November, during which the elegant Queen channelled Old Hollywood glamour. While the mother-of-two had a crimson, satin shawl draped around her arms, the most eye-catching part of her ensemble - which also featured a sleeveless ballgown - was undoubtedly her diamond necklace.

Known as Queen Ena's Diamond Riviere necklace, it paired perfectly with the large diamond drop earrings that Letizia was wearing. The former journalist wore her brown hair in loose waves for the portrait, which was taken in the Royal Palace's lavish Gasparini Hall in February, and added smoky eye make-up and nude lipstick.
Meanwhile in the portrait, King Felipe, cut a handsome figure in his military uniform complete with the blue sash, which signifies the highest-ranking civilian order in Spain, known as Grand Cross with Collar. The portraits, which, as a diptych, match perfectly, are currently on display at the National Bank in Madrid.
The Spanish royal couple's last official portraits were shot by photographer Estela de Castro inside the Royal Palace of Madrid in 2020. In 2007, Annie Leibovitz famously became the first American to take an official portrait of the late Queen, having been commissioned by the Royal Household to celebrate her visit to the States.
When Annie snapped up the late monarch, their initial impressions were one another weren't the friendliest, according to Tatler. The photographer had reportedly hoped to snap up the queen at Windsor Castle aboard one of her horses but was instead offered just 25 minutes to capture her at Buckingham Palace.
