There has been a notable shift in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's relationship in recent months. The couple, once seemingly inseparable, appear to have undergone a professional split, which has seen them undertake a number of separate engagements and projects.
Most recently, Meghan returned to Instagram - six years after deleting her accounts and lifestyle blog The Tig. And she has made it clear it is her own personal account, rather than one shared with Harry, choosing the simple handle @meghan. Furthermore, she appeared alone in the first post she shared with the public, in a video showing her on a beach to celebrate the New Year.
According to an expert, there is a clear strategy behind Harry and Meghan's 'split' - but the Duchess is still very much reliant on her husband. Royal author Hugo Vickers conceded that Meghan doesn't really need Harry to remain in the public eye, telling the Sun: "We certainly know who Meghan is. If you ask anybody what the name Meghan meant, we know. We've got it in one.".
He further likened her to the late Queen, noting that everyone knew who 'the Queen' was - in much the same way Meghan's name is instantly recognisable. But, he noted, there is a crucial difference between the late monarch and the Duchess. "The reason that we know that, of course, is not because of her career as an actress in Suits and other things - it's because she married Prince Harry.".
