He said on Instagram alongside a series of vintage photographs with Marianne from the 1960s: 'I am so saddened to hear of the death of Marianne Faithfull. 'She was so much part of my life for so long. She was a wonderful friend, a beautiful singer and a great actress. She will always be remembered.'. Marianne started her musical journey in 1964, recording 'As Tears Go By', a song penned by Rolling Stones stars Mick, Keith Richards, and their manager Andrew Loog Oldham.

The track reached the UK Top 10, marking the start of her association with the Stones. Her personal life became entwined with the band, and after her marriage to artist John Dunbar ended, she entered a relationship with Mick, becoming a fixture in London's Swinging Sixties scene. Keith, 81, also posted a recent photograph of the pair together, with him clinking a wine glass against Marianne's teacup, and said: 'My heartfelt condolences to Marianne's family! I'm so sad and will miss her!! Love, Keith.'.
Their Stones bandmate Ronnie Wood, 77, added on his Instagram: 'Farewell dear Marianne.'. She starred in the 1960s film Girl On A Bicycle as well as enjoying chart success as a singer. Marianne began her singing career in 1964, after being discovered by Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham. She released her self-titled debut album in 1965, which featured her UK number nine hit single, along with number four hit Come And Stay With Me, at the same time as follow-up LP Come My Way, largely made up of folk covers.
From 1966 to 1970, Marianne was in a highly-publicised relationship with Mick following his split from model and actress Chrissie Shrimpton. She was famously found wearing nothing except a rug at an infamous drugs bust at Rolling Stones guitarist Keith's country house, Redlands, in 1967. Following her split with Mick, Marianne spent two years on the streets of Soho while addicted to heroin before living in a squat.
She returned to release an album, Broken English, in 1979, which is now regarded as a classic. Marianne re-invented herself in 1987 as a jazz and blues singer, with the critically acclaimed Strange Weather, and in the same decade went into rehab. Her final album was an experimental collaboration with Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds' Australian multi-instrumentalist Warren Ellis, called She Walks In Beauty (2021).
Marianne dated Mick Jagger for four years and they split in 1970 (pictured: the pair at Euston station in 1967). Alongside her music career, Marianne also acted in films including The Girl on a Motorcycle, as well as theatre productions. In recent years, her voice was used in the 2021 remake of Dune and 2023's Wild Summon. The daughter of a British military officer and an Austro-Hungarian Jewish baroness, Marianne also recently appeared in Sofia Coppola's film Marie Antoinette.
