Shoppers have hit out at major supermarkets including Aldi and Sainsbury's for changing a small detail in the packaging for some of their meat, saying they 'hate it'. Jamie Devine, who resides in Scotland, took a trip to the budget German supermarket to pick up some groceries and was shocked when he reached the beef aisle.

The store has introduced vacuum-packed packaging for mince, following in the footsteps of Sainsbury's. The personal trainer said: 'What are Aldi doing? Vacuum-packing the mince, what's that all about? Get this fixed ASAP.'. Aldi announced in 2023 that it planned to trial this type of packaging in a bid to cut up to 73 per cent of plastic, however it is unclear whether it has been rolled out to all stores yet.

The store claimed that the wrapping could increase the shelf life of mince beef, 'without affecting taste or quality'. However, many other customers slammed the chain for altering the plastic casing and claimed it has put them off eating mince entirely.
