Spencer Pratt has lashed out at critics who told him to stop complaining over the fact his Los Angeles home burned down as they branded him a "rich celebrity". The 41-year-old reality star found fame on the iconic MTV series The Hills in the mid-noughties where viewers saw him clash with loveable good girl Lauren Conrad and fall for blonde bombshell Heidi Montag - the latter of whom he married in 2008 and welcomed two children. In recent days, Los Angeles has been hit with some of the worst wildfires in Californian history - with over 10,000 homes destroyed or damaged since the fires broke out on Tuesday and spread out of control.
Spencer and Heidi have been among the unfortunate ones who have seen their home completely destroyed in the disaster - and have been updating fans over their devastation. However, they have attracted toxic comments from social media trolls who have told them to stop complaining, assuming that they couple sit on a mountain of wealth.
But now Spencer has hit back at those criticising him in a TikTok video - saying he is far from rich and also claiming online reports about his financial situation are inaccurate. TikTok content creators reportedly receive a small fee for videos that last more than one minute and are viewed by followers for more than five seconds - and Spencer has claimed he is making such videos in a desperate effort to earn some money.
Speaking to the camera from a beach, he said: "You know, one of my favourite things about my house burning down? Ever since 2010 when The Hills was cancelled, everyone on social media and Google that I’ve ever read about myself is that I’m a broke nobody. But then it takes all of our possessions and house burning down and now on all my comments section, everyone’s like ‘What are you crying about? You’re a rich celebrity.’ My gosh! What a re-brand.".
