Kendrick Lamar may have earned his Super Bowl LIX half time headline slot thanks to his career in rap – but it's another genre of music he has an unlikely fondness for. The 37-year old, who takes centre stage during the battle between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans, is a big fan of the Gallagher brothers. Lamar has 17 Grammy Awards to his name and is often seen sporting Oasis T-shirts.
The star has been snapped in tops with slogans bearing the band's logo and singles Supersonic and Live Forever at various points in time – both in the recording studio and during live performances. A compilation of snaps of Lamar was shared by the Oasis Planet Instagram account, prompting surprise amongst music lovers worldwide. One commenter wrote: "Kendrick knows Oasis is a damn good band." Another asked: "How can you NOT like Oasis? The 90s freaking Beatles." And a third added: "Good for him.".
In September, meanwhile, a supposed Super Bowl half time schedule was shared on X. It included the newly-reunited Oasis on the bill as a support act. While most users dismissed the snap as fake, Liam himself took to the comments section with a tease. "Rasta, are you going to sing at the Super Bowl?" one Oasis fan asked. Liam, 52, who has a reputation for not taking life too seriously on the platform, responded: "How's that leaked ffs.".

Over on Reddit, another photo of Lamar made it's way to the Oasis subreddit, where theories behind his love for Oasis were shared. "Liam gave him a shoutout last year when they played the same music festival in Japan," one person wrote. However, the festival referred to came several years after the snap. A second Reddit user shared unexpected speculation, writing: "This is actually crazier than you’d think because it’s been rumoured that 2pac was an Oasis fan because someone sent him a copy of Morning Glory when he was in jail. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence but with all the 2pac references on these diss tracks and with how crazy Kendrick is, it really makes you think.".
A third fuelled that rumour further, responding: "Nina Bhadreshwar, a former writer for the Barnsley Chronicle, was/is an Oasis fan and she corresponded with Tupac while he was in prison. And yes she sent him a copy of Morning Glory. Never heard any confirmation that Tupac became an Oasis fan though.". A fourth person added: "I am surprised as hell by the amount of rappers/ modern artists that like Oasis.. Its pretty cool, hella makes my day." And a fifth Reddit user replied: "I feel like they [rappers] like Noel and Liam's attitude. Unlike most rock artists since the 90s, they have swagger and bluster.".
The countdown to Super Bowl 59 is on, with the Kansas City Chiefs gearing up to defend their championship title for a third consecutive year, this time against the Philadelphia Eagles. The two teams previously clashed in 2023, with the Chiefs emerging victorious with a score of 38-35. While millions of sports fans are eagerly anticipating the forthcoming game, there's still a significant number who are more interested in tuning in for the halftime show.
