If you love Nutella, you’re going to want to get down to Tesco sharpish as the supermarket has just launched an exclusive product that features the iconic chocolate spread. In the retailer’s bakery section you’ll find new Nutella Donuts, which are described as being a soft fluffy ring donut filled with the unmistakable chocolate and hazelnut taste, dusted with sugar on top. Sold in a twin pack, the sweet treats cost £2.65 and are currently only available in Tesco. However, there are plans to roll them out to other supermarkets nationwide in May, if they prove a hit with shoppers.

The launch follows the release of Nutella Muffins in February 2024, which have gone down a storm with Nutella fans, being sold in Tesco, Morrisons and Iceland shops. Despite only launching this week, the new donuts are already proving popular with Tesco shoppers who have hailed them ‘amazing’ and ‘to die for’ on social media. On Facebook, Katie Ann Dresser said: ‘Got some yesterday they taste amazing.’.

While Karen Richards shared: ‘We tried these at our conference they are to die for.’. And Sharn Tatton agreed, writing: ‘They look so nice. The donuts have previously been available elsewhere in Europe, with a number of positive reviews pouring in for them. On Instagram @assaggodogisto posted: ‘Since the opening, you are immediately greeted by a very good scent, while the texture is very soft and delicate.
‘When you bite into the donut it’s very soft, but with slight crunch given by the sugar grains on the surface.’. They continued to say that the main thing that separates the product from other supermarket bakery items is the ‘stuffing’, which you can taste in every bite. ‘It feels good without weighing everything too much. The taste of the cream is sweet and intense, that sets the mythical Nutella apart.’.
However, not everyone was keen on the new Nutella item, with some put off by the price which they branded a ‘rip off’. One shopper, Mark Teagles, even suggested buying a family-sized pack of donuts and a jar of chocolate spread as an alternative as it would be ‘cheaper’. Others weren’t convinced the donuts had enough filling, with Sheri Kenworthy cheekily asking on the Snack Reviews group on Facebook ‘is the Nutella in the room with us?’.
But overall for the most part, people seem keen to try the new product. Speaking about the launch, Mathieu Maggi, marketing director Nutella UK & Ireland, said: ‘We’re excited to give Nutella lovers a new way to enjoy the unique taste of Nutella they know and love. ‘Nutella has always been about creating joyful moments and we’re confident that Nutella fans will love sharing the newest addition to our bakery range together.’.
This comes after another exciting chocolate announcement, as Cadbury finally unveiled the first new item shoppers can expect to see as part of its partnership with Biscoff. Mondelēz International, which owns Cadbury as well as Milka, has joined forced with Lotus Bakeries to develop ‘exciting new products’ and the first is a bar of Dairy Milk chocolate featuring the beloved caramelised biscuit. It’s not known when the chocolate bar is being released, but the brand has teased we should expect it ‘very soon’.
Charlotte Parkes, Senior Brand Manager at Cadbury UK said: ‘The hype is real! Whilst we’re keeping quiet for the time being, there’s going to be another reason to look forward to spring, very soon!’.
