Returning to work after the festive season sparks ‘New Year, new career’ resolutions for many of us. But with the job market as it is – with morecompetition than we’ve seen in years – it’s difficult to know where to start. Well, fear not, as LinkedIn’s 2025 Jobs on the Rise list can give you a steer on the hottest roles employers are desperate to hire for.

The platform analysed millions of jobs started by LinkedIn members from January 1, 2022 to July 31, 2024, to find out the fastest-growing positions and the most in-demand skills. Nearly 55% of roles on the list didn’t exist 25 years ago, with new technology making a huge impact on the jobs being created.

But according to its findings, you’d be wise to get clued up in artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainability specifically, as both of these areas dominated the rankings. Zara Easton, LinkedIn UK career expert, comments: ‘The jobs market is evolving rapidly, and while this can feel daunting to job seekers, it also opens up incredible opportunities.

‘The Jobs on the Rise list is a useful tool in knowing where the areas of opportunity and growth are, so that professionals can tailor their job search, highlight experience and skills relevant to the role, and be set up for success in the job hunt in 2025.’.

Top spot for 2025 is AI engineer, which tracks with further LinkedIn research showing UK job seekers think knowledge of AI will be important to future-proof their careers. Artificial intelligence researcher also ranked ninth fastest-growing on the Jobs on the Rise list, suggesting there’s a lot of potential in the sphere.
