Pete Green made a splash during his appearance on The Chase, winning fans - and host Bradley Walsh - over with his vibrant personality. On the show, Pete and one other remaining contestant were caught out by Chaser Paul Sinha with just a second on the clock, making it incredibly close to a rare win. However, Pete died before he could see his episode air.

The ITV contestant died on June 27, 2021, shortly before his episode of The Chase came out. Tragically, the grandfather and member of many local communities passed away during a house fire at his home in Wymondham, Norfolk. In a statement released at the time, Pete’s son Ben shared that The Chase was on his dad’s mind up until his untimely end. "Dad was so excited about the episode. He talked about it daily up to the filming and then every week after,” he said, according to The Sun.

Pete’s family released another statement, sharing via the Eastern Daily Press: "You touched so many lives and leave us all with the fondest memories, which will carry us through the tough times ahead. "A much-loved character across Wymondham, re-enactment and steampunk communities to name but a few. Father of four, grandfather to eight, and companion to Kiki the Jack Russell. You will be sorely missed.".

Paul Sinha - better known as the The Sinnerman on The Chase - also shared a touching message on Twitter about meeting Pete on the show. "Saddened to hear that Pete from today’s Chase has since passed away in horrible circumstances. A true gentleman, a warm, engaging and thoroughly entertaining opponent,” he wrote.
