Experts have warned that we're not just slacking on cleaning our bedding - which should be done weekly - they say the mattress needs a good scrub every six weeks too. But brace yourselves: there's a sneaky spot we've all been missing that could be breeding mould. MattressNextDay bed experts have flagged divan bed drawers as a major mould and mildew magnet. CEO Martin Seeley has dished the dirt, saying: "The dark, warm environment of bed drawers is the perfect place for mould and mildew to grow.
"Once it starts, it can spread quickly and can ruin the belongings that you've safely stored away – clothes and bedding may become unusable and may need throwing out." He didn't stop there, warning: "Not only will you have to throw away a lot of your items, but the mould can also leave an unpleasant smell in your room, which is hard to remove.".
To kick off your mould busting guide, raid your cupboards for goggles, gloves, a mask, a brush, a spray bottle, white vinegar and a cloth. Before starting your deep clean, haul those drawers out and find a breezy spot to work. Remember, mould is a health fiend - it could spark allergic reactions or even asthma flare-ups, so gear up with that mask, goggles and gloves. The pros suggest starting by spritzing the drawer with water to minimise the release of mould spores into the air.
