Alien: Romulus is the latest addition to the Alien franchise and one of its stars has been nominated for the prestigious BAFTA Rising Star Award 2025. The upcoming jaw-dropping installment, directed by Fede Alvarez, has been hailed by critics as "sheer terror" and "utterly breathtaking".
The synopsis reads: "While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young colonisers come face-to-face with the most relentless and deadly life form in the universe." David Jonsson, who plays Andy, commented on his BAFTA nomination, which he described as "bonkers".
He said: "As a young boy growing up in East London, I couldn’t think of an honour that’s more about the people, and proof that you can do it too. An absolute blessing and dream. Thank you, truly." The film also stars Cailee Spaeny, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu.
Ridley Scott, who directed the original Alien and the series entries Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, is producer alongside Michael Pruss and Walter Hill. The film marks the start of a brand-new story unlike any other Alien movie that came before it. Variety claimed the all-new creatures and characters are “tense enough to grab you by the throat”. Alien: Romulus will be available to stream on Disney+ on January 15. The film has already begun streaming on Hulu, as of November 2024. The streaming release follows the film’s digital release on Prime Video and Apple TV. The gruesome seventh installment topped the box office after its theatrical release in August, collecting $41.5 million, marking the second-highest start in the Alien franchise.
