Longlegs, directed by Osgood Perkins, follows FBI Agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) as she is assigned a serial killer case that spans decades. The killer brutally annihilates entire families, but with a twist – it isn’t the slayer, who calls himself Longlegs (Nicolas Cage), that carries out the crimes, rather he somehow seems to convince the father of each family to do his bidding.
As Harker delves into the twisted, occult world of Longlegs, his true nature becomes a little too close to home for the detective. Thanks to Neon’s cryptic marketing campaign, which saw horror fans deciphering a strange code to unveil the film’s title, anticipation was high for the Nicolas Cage-starring production.
And fans who never caught the spine-tingling horror during its cinema run can now stream it via Amazon Prime Video. Longlegs currently sits at an 86% rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with many lauding Cage’s terrifying performance as the titular killer as well as It Follows star Monroe for her portrayal of Agent Harker.
Mark Kermode dubbed the film ‘genuinely and properly upsetting,’ while The Australian said a ‘palpable fear’ runs through it. YouTuber Perri Nemiroff added: ‘Longlegs’ unsolved serial killer case is hugely unnerving. And where things land? I’ve never seen anything quite like it.
