Alan Carr reportedly made a joke about Phillip Schofield's lack of work at the Royal Variety Performance but it was 'cut' from the final edit. The presenter and comedian co-hosted the yearly event with Amanda Holden on November 22 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The event was aired on ITV and ITVX last weekend but an attendee at the lavish event claimed a gag about former ITV presenter, Phillip, was removed from the show.
During the live show, Alan and Amanda discussed how they spent their day; with Amanda revealed to him that she had been juicing while Alan admitted he didn't have time to eat his dinner. At that moment, a Deliveroo rider appeared on the stage to a number of boxes of pizza before Alan told him to take it to his dressing room.
When the rider left the stage, Alan reportedly said: "I can’t be too hard on him, I’m just pleased to see Phillip Schofield is back working again!" An audience member recently said the presenter was 'hilarious' and that the joke 'just rolled off of his tongue' leaving the audience in stitches.
They told MailOnline: "The crowd were in fits of laughter, it perfectly timed and very, very funny. It is just so strange that ITV didn't include it in their final edit." According to a TV source, ITV removed the joke as they 'didn't want to start another row with Phillip'. ITV have declined to comment.
Phillip was one of the best-known TV stars in the UK when he fronted This Morning alongside Holly Willoughby. However, he stepped down from the show back in May 2023 after admitting to an unwise but not illegal affair with a younger male colleague. In his Channel 5 show, Phillip Schofield Cast Away, the presenter admitted he would not go back to ITV.
