Alan Shearer claims Man Utd have got worse under Ruben Amorim with concern raised

Alan Shearer has claimed that Manchester United are in an even worse state under Ruben Amorim than they were with Erik ten Hag. After a promising 2-2 draw against Liverpool, a FA Cup victory on penalties against Arsenal and a 3-1 win over Southampton, Amorim, looked to have turned a corner. However, a 3-1 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday has quickly dampened any positive sentiment from their previous performances.
The Portuguese head coach didn't mince his words in his post-match press conference, suggesting his squad could be the "worst team in the history of Manchester United". Considering the new system Amorim is trying to introduce, Shearer conceded that the Red Devils look as poor as they've ever been - including under the recently sacked Ten Hag.
On the Rest is Football podcast, Shearer said: "They're actually worse now than they were under Ten Hag, because of what this manager wants to do with this system. The way he wants to play, the players just can't do it.". When Ten Hag was sacked after a 1-0 away loss to West Ham United, the Red Devils were 14th in the Premier League table. By the time Amorim arrived, United were 13th, courtesy of Ruud van Nistelrooy recording a victory over Leicester City and a draw with Chelsea.
At present, United remain in 13th, 12 points off fourth placed Manchester City. Given their recent displays, Shearer admitted he understands why Amorim is being so strong in his criticism. Shearer added: "You sort of get and understand why he is saying that, to buy himself time. It's so unusual that you've got one of, if not, the biggest club in the world and the manager is coming out and saying 'this is the worst side in their history' because of where they are and some of their performances.
