Alexander Isak responds to Arsenal transfer links and why they make him laugh

Newcastle's Alexander Isak admits some rumours regarding his future "make you laugh" as he claimed certain transfer stories are simply not true. The Swedish hitman has been in sensational form this season and that has led to talk of a move away from St James' Park. Isak scored in consecutive games, breaking club records, with those exploits also putting him in the hunt for the Golden Boot. Newcastle's forward is producing his best season since moving to the club in 2022 and a number of the Premier League's elite, Arsenal among them, have been linked with a move that would have to eclipse the British transfer record.
Isak will not be moving in January and the 25-year-old admits the rumour mill is part of being in football but doesn't get caught up in all the talk of moves away, instead seeing the funny of some stories. He said in an interview with Alan Shearer: “This is something you get used to. Sometimes you see things that make you laugh, or things that are not right. Nah, it’s just a part of football. It shouldn’t really bother you too much.”.
Shearer also quizzed Isak on his desire to wear the No 9 shirt at Newcastle. It was the top he wore en route to becoming the Premier League's greatest goalscorer but throughout Isak's time at the Magpies he's seen Callum Wilson wear it and has no plans to take it from him. “I’m doing well, I’m happy with number 14. But, on the other hand, I know the number nine is a special shirt for the fans," said the Swede.
Eddie Howe has had to field questions regarding Isak's future, especially with Newcastle potentially needing to sell for PSR reasons. The manager though is adamant the club was to retain their leading light with silverware on the club's agenda this season. "There's no part of me or anyone at Newcastle that wants to let Alex go. He's very much part of our long-term plans. He's first class," he said. "He's motivated and wants to do well. He has big aspirations with his career but he's still relatively young. His desire to score goals is second to none and regarding his future, everything has been positive. I would love for him to contribute to us winning a trophy.".
