Donald Trump will begin his second non-consecutive term as President of America later today, just months on a number of celebrities sharing their plans to leave the USA upon his re-election to the White House. The president-elect will be sworn in to his second term in the White House on Monday, eight years on from first taking the oath of office, after beating current US Vice-President Kamala Harris in November.
Harris' campaign saw household names like Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez publicly endorse the Democratic Party candidate but it wasn't enough to see America elect its first female president. In the run-up to convicted felon and reality star's victory, a number of household names pledged to leave the country should Trump return to the White House.
As Trump was confirmed as the 47th president in November, Desperate Housewives icon Eva Longoria announced she and her family are in the process of leaving Los Angeles and will instead split their time between Spain and Mexico. Eva, who has been helping communities impacted by the LA wildfires, stated in an interview that America is "a scary place" and will "remain that way" under President Trump.
"I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky," the actress told Marie Claire in mid November. "They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them." It's not yet known if Eva has made the move but the mum-of-one has been busy over recent weeks.
Eva and her foundation pledged one million dollars (£819,000) to support the Latino Community Foundation (LCF) and the California Community Foundation’s wildlife recovery fund earlier this month. The Only Murders In The Building actress has also volunteered with Global Empowerment Mission and visit World Central Kitchen’s Eaton Fire operations.
