Ange Postecoglou could face a Football Association probe over his post-match rant. Tottenham boss Postecoglou repeated the same answer SIX TIMES saying “if all things were equal” after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday. Postecoglou was incensed and blew his top on the touchline after referee Andy Madley did not give a handball against Newcastle’s Joelinton in the build-up to Anthony Gordon’s equaliser.
But then Newcastle defender Dan Burn escaped a second yellow card despite the ball striking his arm at another stage of the match. Postecoglou said afterwards that he was “the angriest he has ever been” after the defeat and went on a remarkable rant while being cross examined by Match of the Day commentator Mark Scott who conducted the post-match interview with the Spurs boss.
Under-pressure Postecoglou, whose side have now managed just two wins in their last 11 Premier League games, repeated the same answer but then refused to elaborate when Scott asked him whether he was unhappy at the officials or not having his full squad available.
Premier League managers are allowed to express a view about referees and decisions but they get into trouble with the FA as soon as they hint at any form of bias or question an official’s integrity. The FA are understood to be keen to stress no investigation has been launched yet but they do want to discover what Postecoglou meant with his comments.
