Annoying passenger behaviour spreads to the luggage carousel with one action branded as 'rude'

Annoying passenger behaviour has spread to the luggage carousel, with tensions flaring over a particular method of luggage collection. A passenger has taken to Reddit to share an encounter they had and ask other users whether she was in the wrong after another traveller called her out for 'rude' behaviour. They explained that a young college student confronted her for collecting her four bags, as they arrived in the carousel, rather than "walking down there to pick them up".
"My four large bags quickly came off the carousel. As I approached the carousel I grabbed my first one, then my second one, third, and fourth came down the chute quite quickly," they explained. "When I went to grab the fourth bag this young college girl said that I was being rude picking up my bags. She said 'why can't you walk down there to pick them up?' We were all standing at the same spot for five mins before my luggage came off.".
The confrontation sparked a load of responses from other travellers and many defended the woman's actions. One traveller stated: "She's insane. Grab your bags when you see them.". Another user suggested the young girl was projecting her travel stress onto the woman. "People get cranky at airports. She was just looking for something to complain about," they stated. A third user mentioned an unspoken rule about the luggage carousel: "It's every person for themselves. If someone is accessing their bag, and yours has not arrived, step back and let the person get their stuff.".
Commenters seemed to side with the woman, declaring that it was actually the student that was breaking baggage etiquette. "She is absolutely the rude one continuing to crowd the area after someone's bag has arrived," another traveller argued. "I try to stand a bit further away where I can still see the bags coming, but then somebody just plops down in front of me. No biggie so long as they shift when someone sees their luggage and goes to grab it!.
"The only etiquette is that you don't crowd the carousel if you don't see your luggage. Only step up if you see your luggage or you want to quickly check if it's your bag. Then clear the area once you've got your bags.". This is the latest of a stream of 'bad' behaviours from airplane passengers in the airport and on the aircraft. Recently, air staff have seen a spike in 'seat squatters' going to new lengths to get better seats on board a flight and free drinks.
Flight passengers are cheating the system by stealing other passenger's first class seat — even if just for a few seconds — in a bid to getting complimentary "pre-flight booze". On Reddit, a user shared a story of how a flight steward encountered an economy flier who had posed as a first-class passenger on a Delta Air Lines flight from Providence, Rhode Island to Atlanta, Georgia. They spotted two women "come [aboard] haphazardly" and sit in the first row of the aircraft.
“They throw their bags up and settle in. Few moments later, a woman comes on the plane and lets them know one of those seats is hers.” The user continued: “They quickly get up, laugh and say, ‘We are rookies.’ The flight attendant asks what row they are in and they say 24. They leave their bags and travel back to their row.”. Can we send you the Mirror Travel newsletter with weekly travel news and inspiration?.
