Former UFC heavyweight star Ben Rothwell has called for a boxing showdown with two-time world champion Anthony Joshua. After competing under the UFC banner for 12 years, and predominately spending most of his career in MMA's premium promotion, the American amassed a commendable professional record of 39-14 - which included 28 knockouts. The 43-year-old was well-known for his vicious power and ability to end any fight in a heartbeat.
However, after leaving the UFC in 2021, 'Big Ben' tried his luck in the forever growing BKFC. After making his bare knuckle debut in 2022, the combat sports veteran racked up three impressive wins, all via knockout, before going viral for his recent finish. Rothwell secured the heavyweight title in sensational fashion at Knuckle Mania 5 last weekend - knocking out Mick Terrill in 36 seconds and earning $150,000 in the process.
Now, after four fights in the promotion, Rothwell has confirmed he is now a free agent and is targeting a move to the world of boxing - with Joshua on his list of dream fights. Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, he said: "Right now I'm a free agent, I very much love the BKFC, I love David Feldman and I would like to continue, even finish my career here.
"How much time have I got? Maybe a year or so, it really depends. But Francis Ngannou, Anthony Joshua, guys who beat them guys. To put the gloves on and prove how good at boxing I am would very much be a bucket list. I just don’t feel like I’ve ever gotten to show the boxing world how good of a boxer I am.".
