Apple fans think massive freebie is coming in days after iPhone maker shares cryptic three word post

APPLE has got tech fans speculating that a special giveaway could be coming very soon after posting a cryptic message on social media. The iPhone maker has shared promotional images for Apple TV+ with the text: "See for yourself.". The date January 4 to January 5 is also cited, which has sparked rumours that the tech giant may be planning to make its streaming service free for a weekend.
Promo images feature different Apple TV+ hits, with one on X featuring Gary Oldman in Slow Horses and another on Instagram appears to show Will Ferrell in Christmas movie Spirited. Apple TV+ has released multiple award winning series like Ted Lasso and The Morning Show, as well as big cast films including Napoleon with Joaquin Phoenix and Killers of the Flower Moon starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
But its catalogue remains smaller than rivals like Netflix and Disney+. And the market share for Apple TV+ is estimated to only be 0.3 per cent in the US, according to Nielsen data for June 2024. So a free weekend allowing anyone to get a flavour of the platform's high quality content might be a strategy to turn things around.
"Given January 4-5 falls on the weekend, the “See for yourself” tagline sounds like a free-weekend promo," one user guessed on Reddit. "it’ll either be a free weekend promo, or an event where they announce upcoming shows," another wrote. "Given that it’s 2 days, the former feels more likely.".
