Ariana Grande was left in an awkward situation during a red carpet interview at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, where she was nominated for best performance by a female actor in a supporting role for her character Glinda in Wicked. The pop star and actress was asked who was the first person she called when she found out about her nomination. Ariana revealed it was her mother, Joan Grande, who was also present at the event. The interviewer seemed surprised that it wasn't her grandmother, Nonna, real name Marjorie M. Grande.
When asked if her grandmother was still alive, Ariana confirmed: "Yeah, my Nonna. She's 99 [years old]. Nonna was second and then yeah, Cynthia and my acting coach Nancy Banks, who I just called on the way over here.". Fans were quick to express their discomfort at the question on TikTok, as they know how much Nonna means to Ariana and the close relationship they share. Nonna has even featured in some of Ariana's music, reports the Mirror US.
One viewer exclaimed: "WHY WOULD THE INTERVIEWER ASK IF SHES STILL ALIVE [loudly crying face emoji]." Another outraged commenter wrote: "IS SHE STILL ALIVE? ? ? ? ? ? don't do nonna like that.". A third posted: "EXCUSE ME, what did she just ask? Seriously!?," while a fourth remarked: "What way would the interviewer react if she said NO...Like whyyyyy [skull face emoji].".
