Arsenal's hopes of adding to their squad before the January transfer window closes have taken another hit with the news that a top target will be staying at his club until the end of the season. The north London club are under pressure from supporters to strengthen before the window slams shut on Monday night. They are yet to bring in a player in January with a £60m bid rejected for Ollie Watkins rejected during the week.

Rosenborg midfielder Sverre Nypan was in London on Sunday night ahead of talks with the Gunners and the proposed move was thought to be advancing. Manchester City’s sister club Girona also want the midfielder, who only turned 18 last month. However, The Athletic's David Ornstein reports that any such transfer will not be taking place until the summer. Arsenal will not be signing midfielder Sverre Nypan (right) in the January transfer window.

Nypan will remain with Rosenborg and weigh up his options at the end of the season. Taking to X, he wrote: 'Sverre Nypan now expected to stay at Rosenborg for rest of season. 18-year-old midfield talent pursued by Arsenal, Girona and others but no agreement struck for winter move. Norway youth international set to remain with Rosenborg while considering future.'. Nypan made 24 appearances last season, scoring nine goals and registering five assists for the Rosenborg first team.

In his 60 senior appearances, he has logged an impressive 24 goal involvements as an attacking midfielder, including 13 goals and 11 assists. The teenager made his debut for Rosenborg on 6 November 2022, starting in a league match against Jerv. He became the youngest player ever to represent Rosenborg at 15 years and 322 days and is now a reliable starter for the club. In May 2023, he became the youngest player to score in a league match for them, at just 16 years and 145 days old.
